The University of Adelaide Materials Bio Engineering Laboratories
MBE
Matthews Architects delivered a fully developed research & education suite of laboratories. Initially divided into 3 sections separated by different groups, it became clear early on through stakeholder discussions that the most efficient use of spaces would be to redesign the existing tender documentation to allow for a combined, collaborative facility. The MBE Facility is an excellent demonstration of the University’s long term strategic plans regarding their aspirations to develop research that shapes the future and being a magnet for talent.. The MBE Facility will have deep and tangible long-term benefits as a highly optimised open plan laboratory which has been future proofed to allow for the easy rearrangement of services should the nature of research or talent change. This approach to design is extremely valuable in the long term as it will allow for re-use of the space in the next 5, 10, 20 years with minimal alterations required no matter how the landscape of scientific research changes.
